From seedling to tree

As we grow, we develop toes, arms, eyes, that we had since birth... To grow, trees multiply their basic format (a stem, a root, a few leaves) countless times.

By adding layers of wood, the tree thickens its stem. By manufacturing new leaves, the seedling, which was hardly distinguishable from those of understory plants, builds an imposing foliage. And its single primary root, sent down into the soil as a scout, no longer suffers from loneliness: a mature oak can have up to 500 million root tips! Since some oaks live 1,000 years, imagine the quantity of roots over the course of their life...
