I'm working on conservation of the butternut, a tree found in eastern North America. In many instances, tree species are endangered in Canada because they are at the northern limit of their distribution. Whereas in the United States, they are still abundant. This is not the case with the butternut: it is infected throughout its area of distribution. If we lose the butternut, we will lose it everywhere, not just here.
