Dendrochronology

Good Answer

Trees sharing the same environment react in a similar way to climatic conditions. In a good year, a tree produces a wide ring; in a bad year, the ring will be narrow. Crossdating involves measuring the width of each ring and matching up the measurements for the dead tree with those of the living tree to arrive at a date for the former.
