In fact, the winner is a giant sequoia. General Sherman, growing in California, is neither the tallest (83.8 m) nor the thickest (11.1 m), but it is definitively the biggest. The volume of its trunk is 1487 m3: it would make 5 billion matchsticks. Its weight is estimated at 2,000 tons: that's heavier than 12 blue whales!
