My study consists in comparing the cavity nesters according to differently aged forests.

We compare young forests with very old forests.
Young forests are around 60 years old, old forests are 240 years and older.

In the young forests, we'll find more hardwoods than in old forests.
In the mixed boreal forest, we find more hardwood at first, and
as the forest gets older, conifers replace hardwoods.

And for the cavity nesters, my hypothesis is that we will find more cavities
and cavity-users in the intermediate age states, where we will find...
a greater abundance of big quaking aspens.

Quaking aspen is a deciduous tree whose wood is particularly soft
so its excavation is easier.
