Glossary - Galbulus

Accessory fruit, spherically-shaped "berry" of some species of conifers, formed by three bracts welded to the ovules and welded together; when mature, the bracts become fleshy, and the cone is a false "berry", generally bluish. Example: the galbula of junipers (Juniperus).
